Calgary BABES is a branch of Barley’s Angels which is an organization that brings women together to learn about and drink beer. Laura heard about Barley’s Angels while listening to a microbrewr.com podcast about the Pink Boots Society and immediately knew she wanted to be a part of it. There are a plethora of beer drinking groups, but Laura wanted to start a group with a friendly and non-judgmental environment specifically for women. Because the beer world seems to be dominated by men in both the drinking and brewing capacity, Laura is excited to meet other women who love drinking, talking about, learning about and brewing beer! Calgary’s craft beer industry has some amazing females in it and Laura is always excited when there is a 50/50 ratio of men and women at beer events.
Laura founded Calgary BABES in 2016 to host events for women to meet other like-minded *ahem* beer-minded ladies while enjoying Calgary’s craft beers. BABES welcomes women hoping to expand their appreciation and knowledge of craft beer through educational tasting and pairing events. You do not have to be a beer genius, home-brewer or know anything about beer to join our events, our events are open to all women who are 18 years and older.
Laura is a co-founder of Prairie Dog Brewing, a beginner home-brewer, a wife, and a mother to a young daughter and owner of two energetic dogs. She loves crafting which flows well into the world of brewing and craft beer because she believes it is an art in addition to a science.
